Governance

The Chester Fire Services Committee (CFSC) is a partnership between the Village of Chester and the Municipality of the District of Chester, NS. The Committee oversees fire and emergency services to districts 3, 7, and part of 1 through the Chester Volunteer Fire Department (CVFD).

The CFSC was formed by legal agreement: the Intermunicipal Fire Services Agreement (May 12, 2022) and the Revising Agreement (Jul 31, 2023). It is incorporated under the Municipal Government Act and subject to the Act, the Agreements, and its own By-laws.

Membership consists of three citizens appointed by the Village and three citizens appointed by the Municipality who are residents of the CVFD fire district. Their key responsibilities are the annual Operations & Capital Budgets, 5- and 20-year capital plans, and the building of a new fire station.

Administration is provided by staff of the Village of Chester. Operational authority, as always, lies with the Fire Department.
